  • Life ship.

Life. It is a beautiful thing. Often full of dear friends, lovely children, rewarding relationships, prosperous careers, personal accomplishments. You think you’ve got it all figured out. You’ve got insurance for your home, car, boat, health. You are on top of the game. Are you? Are you really the captain of your own ship and managing the personal risks in your life?

If so, get this : insurance only pays cash after the loss. It cannot undo or prevent accidents , reverse injuries, or bring back the dead. You should take actions to reduce chances of tragedies and save some lives.

There are some tips we all may find useful:

  • Drive within the speed limit. Follow traffic laws. They are designed to reduce both the frequency and severity of automobile accidents.
  • Take a defensive driving course. In some states it allows you to dismiss traffic tickets, obtain a driver record, lower insurance rates and become a better driver.
  • Do regular maintenance of your vehicle (steering, lights, brakes, etc).
  • Don’t drink and drive. If you have teenage driver, mutually sign a SADD (Students Against Driving Drunk) contract. For more information visit www.saddonline.com.
  • Make sure your teenager gets many more driving hours than they get in a driver’s education class. At least 40 hours practicing alongside you, facing all kinds of weather conditions and different situations.
  • Always wear a seatbelt. Make your passengers do the same.
  • Buy cars (or equip yours) with safety features like antilock brakes, air bags, safety tires, and that test well in crash tests.
  • Get alarm system for your car and home.
  • Eat healthy, exercise regularly, do not smoke.

Life is short. Enjoy every moment of it. And, of course, drive safely.
