The magical glove compartment.
Everybody knows that family is very important. We make our first steps, holding mother’s hand, learn to speak, listening to our parents. Actually, family influences a lot on our behavior, values and deeds. I’m no exception. I am the kind of “better safe than sorry” and “what if” person - all because of my parents. We used to travel a lot and my mom would pack so many clothes and shoes (what if it will be raining or cold, or too hot?) and my dad was joking, that we were not moving, just going away for a week. On the other hand my father would have all kinds of stuff in his car, like a shovel (we’ve been stuck in a mud, sand and snow, so it was very helpful), tire pump and a spare tire (there were no road assistance service at that time), blanket, umbrella and many more.
Of course, I’ve taken after my family, but I am an individual with my own personality. Everyday brings something new to my life, I learn from experiences. And these are my “in case” things:
- In a glove compartment - registration; proof of insurance; driver’s license (or in a wallet); camera; flash light (to avoid dying batteries get a wind-up one); notepad and pen; first aid kit; phone numbers of my auto insurance company and a towing service; cell phone charger; car manual;
- Under the car seat - baby wipes; plastic bags (for trash or car-sick somebody); fire extinguisher (overheated engine or fire emergencies);
- Ashtray - no not for ash (smoking is bad for you and people around you; teeth are yellow, fingers are stinky - eww!). I keep spare change in it;
- In the trunk - water; jumper cables; blanket.
-
One more thing to keep in your glove compartment - list of claims information you will need in case of an accident:
- Accident location - for your auto insurance company to investigate the scene;
- Police information - for your insurance company to get a copy of a police report and speak to the right officer;
- Other driver’s and car owner’s information;
- Injuries and damages;
- Witnesses.

I hope you will find this information useful. May life never catch you unprepared or off guard!
