  • Improve security for lower home insurance premiums

    Insurance, be it Auto or Homeowners, Health or Business, may seem complex. And, yes, it is. But think of it like a system. It makes it easier to find some similarities lets say between Homeowners and Auto insurance. In our articles we talk about having airbags, antilock brakes, and automatic seatbelts and so on - things, that reduce risk of getting in an accident or if it does occur, lowering its possible severity, things, that have another advantage, like bringing your premiums down.

    So, if antilock brakes is a security feature to lower auto insurance rates, what can we do about our houses? The same! We should improve our castle’s security! Here are some very simple, but useful ways to do so:

  • install a UL approved smoke detector on each floor. Remember to replace batteries every year;
  • install a UL approved dry-chemical fire extinguisher in the kitchen for grease fires;
  • install dead-bolt locks on all access doors;
  • install a motion detector alarm;
  • install a central burglar-and-fire alarm;
  • have your fireplace, flues and chimney cleaned regularly to prevent chimney fires, which leads to those terrible interior smoke damage;
  • change your locks immediately, if your purse or keys are stolen;
  • keep trees trimmed, and keep them safely away from the house;
  • have walkways clean and safe;
  • have a fence around your swimming pool;
  • install a carbon monoxide detector.
  • Save on your Homeowners insurance premiums by putting some of these tips into effect.
