  • At the time of car accident

    We all have our share of bad days. Our lives are so rushed, we are trying to accomplish so much, we stress out easily. On top of that we might get one of the “oh, fudge!” moments. Yeah, no, it’s not the chocolate I’m talking about. I refer to car accidents. In situation like that everybody reacts differently.

    What to do when in an accident? Well, first and most important - do not panic!

  • Do not argue with another driver, no matter whose fault that is. Discuss accident only with the police and your insurance agent;
  • If the accident is minor and there are no bodily injuries, move the cars aside (do not form traffic, although, there are many people, who just must know what is going on, so they’ll slow down to see);
  • Gather all the following information, as you will need it when filing a claim:

  • 1. Accident location
  • 2. Police information (name of the officer your insurance company will have to talk to and get a copy of the police report)
  • 3. Other vehicle owner’s and driver’s information (name, address, telephone number, license plate, VIN, insurance information)
  • 4. Any injuries (do not forget about the passengers)
  • 5. Witnesses;

  • Take pictures of both cars (what? You still have no camera in your car? What a shame!);
  • In case of a major accident or hit and run - call the police;
  • After the accident call your car insurance company (aren’t you glad you are covered by a great insurance and an umbrella policy? ). Do not fix the car yourself, or wait for weeks to notify them. Otherwise, insurance company may deny your claim.

    Always remember, there’s no going back in time and fixing problems. Try to avoid troubles at all costs in the first place. If anything bad happens - learn from it and move on.
