Yep, I do get questions like that. It is ILLEGAL to drive a car without car insurance. We still have millions of people who understand that it is illegal but still get behind a wheel and drive without auto insurance. Laws and regulations differ from state to state but it is required to have at least minimum amount of coverage. Believe it or not, it’s meant for our own good.
Having drivers license suspended and a car impounded is the best scenario, if you are lucky. If not - be prepared to see your life in ruins. Because, if you cause an accident, on top of loosing permission to drive a car, you will have to pay for the damages to the property, another vehicle and any medical bills of people who may be hurt. It may not be as scary, if you are a multimillionaire, make sure though, the other party does not know, or they’ll sue you for much more than you expect (I want to say that I am joking again but it seems more like a reality).
And you never know who may hit you. The person may be uninsured or underinsured (not having enough coverage) without any income or valuable assets. In that case you will have to take care of your medical bills and car damages on your own. If the accident was severe and you became handicapped…Say bah-bye to your job, savings (if any), house and any other assets. Can’t afford car insurance? Park or sell your car. You don’t want to take a chance, do you? Decision is yours.
As you see, it really does not worth skimping on auto insurance, which can save you from loosing so much more at the end of the day. So, instead of asking stupid question, go and get your car insured. Live your life and be happy that you have one less thing to worry about.
