  • Classic cars at auction.

    Are you being stressed? Some personal problems? Grueling day at work? What can take your mind off of it? What can give you a real satisfaction? What can help you relax and get the pleasure? For some people it‘s a glass of wine on a terrace, for some it’s taking a nice bubble bath, but I am talking about cars! Classic cars, to be precise. For instance, for me a picture perfect is driving along the beach with the top down, the sun, the ocean …ah.

    There are so many great cars and it’s much easier to get one. The quality of restored cars is higher, parts are better made, tools are easier to find. The prices on some classics went really high over the past years. But there are still some cars at a great bargain, like 1980s Porsche 911s.

    Where to get a classic beauty? You can buy it from private sellers or online auctions, or auction houses. I’d say the last one is a lot of fun. So much energy, so many cars to see. So, how do you buy at an auction? Here are some tips for you:

  • decide what you are after. Do your homework before a sale. Know the model’s potential weaknesses;
  • decide how much to pay. This is your limit - so stick with it;
  • get there early to take your time checking the cars before the rush;
  • do not forget to register with the auction house;
  • check the car’s documents;
  • play “agent 007” - listen to the conversations of other potential buyers to see if they mention any faults or how much they are willing to pay;
  • do not bet first. And if nobody bids, look for the auctioneer after the sale;
  • plan ahead. You’d need insurance or transportation, if an auction was successful for you.

    Have fun and good luck!
