  • Drink-or-treat.

    The time of our favorite holidays has come. I bet we enjoy dressing up for Halloween and screaming “Happy New Year” on the top of our lungs no less, than we did when we were kids. And it’s true. Now we do not have to be home by midnight (hi, mom!). We stay up late, party with friends, share special time with family.

    And what holiday or a “get together” happens without alcohol. As numerous studies show a glass of wine per day is actually very good for you. It is said that people live longer in countries where they drink a lot of red wine, such as France, Spain and Italy. Red wine is known to improve cardiovascular health. Drinkers are also less likely to die prematurely from any cause or get Alzheimer’s disease.

    Being at a night club with a group of friends, you are sipping on a cocktail or beer, somebody buys a round of shots… so much fun, great time. But it is not all the good news. Excessive alcohol consumption also increases risks of addictions, domestic violence, birth defects and drunk driving. Speaking of… You might be thinking “Oh, I only had two” (by the way, some restaurants and bars pour up to three times more alcohol than the standard measure) or “It’s a short drive home”. Being close to home won’t save you from a car accident. You can hurt yourself and others. Besides, after getting a DUI, some insurance companies may exclude you from the policy, others will not even give you a quote. Check with your auto insurance provider if you are covered in case of drunk driving.

    You can enjoy the party season without worry with these tips:
    * do not drink and drive;
    * have a designated driver take you home;
    * program few numbers of local taxis into your cell phone, so you can call one when needed;
    * and if it’s not far from home and your neighborhood is lovely - take a walk. Get some fresh air and clear post party fog.

    Happy holidays! Be safe!
