Tips on insuring rental cars.
Once in a while everybody has been in a situation, when it was necessary to rent a car. Whether you are planning on going to Lake Tahoe to ski with your friends and family or organizing a fishing trip, you need a car to meet your requirements. To protect yourself arrange insurance before getting started:
Make sure your auto insurance covers all four liability risks associated with rental cars (injuries and property damage caused by you to others; damages caused by you to the rental car; damages to the rental car not caused by you; loss of revenue while the car being repaired). If not, ask your car insurance company to arrange coverage for you. Give them description of the vehicle you are renting, the name of the renting agency and the length of the trip. Ask for the collision and comprehensive coverage;
Most of the time people share the driving and expenses. It is very important to have all parties sign the contract, so that everyone is liable;
Buy the optional collision-damage waiver coverage from the rental car agency in case you do not have car insurance of your own;
Usually car insurance does not provide coverage outside the United States. So, when renting abroad, get all the coverage you can from the rental agency. Having Personal Umbrella policy helps a lot, because it provides worldwide coverage. Still, it is wise to check with your umbrella insurance agent before refusing to buy an international coverage.
Have a wonderful trip!
