We are fed up with dishonest people with their fake complements and empty promises. But, looks like our president says what he means and does not waste any time since the day he has got this position.
You have probably heard that Mr. Obama was talking about making health insurance more affordable, but get this: in the nearest future everybody may be required to have health insurance (just like we are required to have car insurance). There are a lot of the details that Congress has to figure out. But, in total, the plan seems to be perfect for a lot of folks: insurance providers will get tons of new customers; less pressure on business owners to provide group health coverage for their employees; hospitals will get paid for their services; low-income individuals will be able to have health coverage thanks to subsidies and hardship waivers and as Obama says: “The days of cherry-picking who to cover and who to deny – those days are over” – that means that anybody, who was denied health insurance before because of their preexisting condition, would be able to have a proper coverage. Mr. Obama also says that if the whole nation will have health insurance coverage then the premiums will go way down.
We do and we should question everything and mandated health coverage is no exception. In a free democratic country why are we made to choose something we do not want? If I am a healthy person, why should I pay for somebody who is a smoker or obese, for example? Is there a possibility that such a huge wave of insured people will lead to a poor patient care?
With a lot of supporters there will always be an opposition. It is a tough decision to make for our government. Massachusetts becomes an example with its mandatory health care law. The promise was extremely attractive – affordable health insurance for all. But did it work? Not really. Will the plan work for a nation? I guess we’ll see.
